Is PetfolkCare Worth It? The Math for a Puppy, an Adult Dog and a Healthy Cat

Is PetfolkCare Worth It? The Math for a Puppy, an Adult Dog and a Healthy Cat

PetfolkCare pays for itself when your pet sees the vet about twice a year or more. It pays the most in a puppy's first year and in any year with a spay, neuter or dental cleaning. The one case where it usually doesn't pay on money alone: a healthy adult pet who comes in once a year.

PetfolkCare is Petfolk's membership for dogs and cats. It costs $199 per pet per year and covers up to $99 of every exam, so two exams cover almost the whole fee before any other discount. We priced three example pets at Petfolk Charlotte (zip 28277) on November 1, 2026. Prices start at the amounts shown and vary by market, so check your own zip on the Petfolk pricing page.

How much does PetfolkCare save on a puppy's first year?

A puppy saves about $334 in year one at Charlotte prices. The example uses three vaccine visits (around 8, 12 and 16 weeks), the vaccines Petfolk's puppy vaccine schedule lists for those visits, and a neuter. Your vet sets your own puppy's plan.

The covered exams and the $200 off the spay or neuter do most of the work. A spay starts at $809 in Charlotte, so a female puppy's numbers come out about the same. For what happens at each of those early visits, see your puppy's first three months and our guide to core vaccines for dogs.

How much does PetfolkCare save on an adult dog?

An adult dog with a wellness exam, yearly vaccines and two sick visits saves about $127. With one sick visit instead of two, it's close to even (about $28 saved).

A dental cleaning changes the picture. It starts at $738 for a dog in Charlotte, and members get $200 off one cleaning every 12 months when the vet recommends it: same dog, same year, about $327 saved. Not sure your dog needs one yet? These are the signs to look for.

What about a healthy cat seen once a year?

A healthy indoor cat who comes in once a year for an exam and two vaccines pays less without PetfolkCare: $202 per visit at Charlotte prices, against $292 as a member.

One more visit evens it out. A second exam (wellness or sick) brings the two totals within about $9 of each other, and a cat due for a dental cleaning or a spay or neuter comes out well ahead on the plan. Some cat parents join anyway for the 24/7 member chat; that's a fair reason, just not a money one.

What does PetfolkCare cover?

Per the PetfolkCare membership terms, members get:

  • Exams covered up to $99 each visit (a sick and urgent exam that starts at $135 costs a member $36)

  • 10% off vaccines

  • 10% off flea, tick and heartworm medicine bought in the clinic

  • 10% off labwork and x-rays

  • $200 off one spay or neuter (once per pet)

  • $200 off one dental cleaning every 12 months, when the vet recommends it

  • 10% off the end-of-life package (base fee)

  • 24/7 chat with the Petfolk care team in the app or online

Benefits belong to the pet you enroll and can't be moved to another pet.

Can I cancel PetfolkCare?

Yes, with limits. The membership has a 1-year minimum and renews each year on its own; to stop it, cancel at least 30 days before your renewal date. You get a full refund if you cancel within 3 business days of joining. After that the fee is non-refundable, except for a prorated refund if your pet dies or you move more than 50 miles from any Petfolk.

How do I know if PetfolkCare is worth it for my pet?

Count the exams you expect next year. Two or more, and the plan likely pays; one, and it likely doesn't, unless a dental cleaning or a spay or neuter is coming. If you're also looking at pet insurance, note that it does a different job: it pays for big illness and injury bills, while PetfolkCare lowers the cost of routine and sick visits. What pet insurance covers explains the difference. For what a regular visit costs without any plan, see vet checkup costs.

Questions pet parents ask

How much does PetfolkCare cost?

PetfolkCare costs $199 per pet per year for dogs and cats. It renews each year and has a 1-year minimum.

Does PetfolkCare cover sick visits?

Yes. It covers up to $99 of every exam, sick and urgent exams included, so a member pays $36 for a sick visit exam that starts at $135. Tests, x-rays and medicine aren't free, but labwork and x-rays are 10% off. Our guide to urgent care vs. the ER helps you decide which visit you need.

Is there a vet membership that covers exams in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta or Charlotte?

Yes. PetfolkCare works at Petfolk clinics in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte and every other Petfolk market listed on the locations page.

Can I message a vet at night with PetfolkCare?

Yes. Members can message the Petfolk care team 24/7 in the app or online. Petfolk clinics are open during the day, so for an emergency at night, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital.

Is PetfolkCare worth it for a cat?

It depends on visits. A kitten, a cat who comes in twice a year, or a cat due for a dental cleaning or a spay or neuter usually comes out ahead. A healthy adult cat seen once a year usually doesn't. For kittens, our guide to core cat vaccines shows how many visits year one takes.
