Book NowPet X-Rays & Diagnostic Imaging for Pets
Petfolk provides advanced pet X-ray and diagnostic imaging services to help find answers as quickly and safely as possible. Using digital X-rays and ultrasound, our veterinarians capture detailed images for faster, more accurate diagnoses. Every X-ray is reviewed by Radimal AI, and your care team can also send it to a Board-Certified Radiologist at an additional cost. So you’ll always get clear explanations and confident next steps for your pet’s X-ray results.
Our Imaging & Radiology Services
At Petfolk, we use modern diagnostic tools to identify conditions quickly and guide effective treatment. Whether your pet needs an X-ray to check for an injury or an ultrasound to evaluate internal organs, our goal is to provide fast answers with minimal stress.
Our diagnostic imaging services include:
Digital X-rays – High-quality images of bones, chest, or abdomen to identify fractures, heart or lung changes, or foreign objects.
Ultrasound – Used to examine soft tissues, organs, or pregnancies. All Petfolk care centers offer basic ultrasound, while advanced ultrasound services may vary by location.
Dental X-rays – Detects issues below the gum line during dental care procedures.
Radiologist review – Complex or detailed cases may be reviewed by a board-certified veterinary radiologist for additional insight.
Follow-up imaging – When needed, repeated imaging helps track healing or treatment progress.
Our care team explains results in clear terms and helps you understand what comes next—from additional testing to treatment or monitoring.
When We Recommend Imaging
Your veterinarian may recommend imaging when symptoms suggest something is going on beneath the surface.
Common reasons for imaging include:
Fractures or injuries – To detect broken bones or joint damage.
Foreign body ingestion – To locate swallowed items.
Chronic coughing or breathing issues – To evaluate heart and lung health.
Abdominal pain or vomiting – To check the stomach, intestines, or liver.
Urinary blockages – Especially in cats with difficulty urinating.
Pregnancy checks – To confirm and monitor litters.
Heart or lung disease – For diagnosis and long-term management.
X-rays are best for visualizing bones and dense structures, while ultrasound helps evaluate organs and soft tissue. In many cases, your veterinarian may recommend using both for a complete picture.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Your pet’s imaging visit is designed to be safe, comfortable, and efficient.
Booking – Schedule online or by phone. Fasting may be recommended if sedation is needed.
During X-rays – Pets are gently positioned while digital images are taken in seconds. Sedation may be used if movement or anxiety makes positioning difficult.
During ultrasound – A small area of fur is shaved for better image quality. Ultrasound is painless and performed while your pet lies comfortably on a padded table. Still, sedation may be required if your pet is anxious, very wiggly, or uncomfortable lying on their back.
Results – Many results are available the same day. If a radiologist review is needed, your care team will share findings within a few days. Some cases may qualify for faster or STAT review, depending on availability and cost.
Next steps – Your veterinarian will discuss results, treatment options, or referrals for advanced imaging if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Imaging & Radiology
Are digital radiology procedures safe for my pet?
Yes. Digital X-rays use minimal radiation and are completely safe for pets. Our team ensures all procedures are quick, gentle, and stress-free.
Will my dog or cat need sedation for X-rays or an ultrasound?
Most pets don’t need sedation, but it may be recommended if your pet is anxious or in pain to help them stay calm and still.
How long does imaging take, and when will I get results?
Most X-ray visits are fairly quick, especially if your pet only needs images taken. Ultrasound timing can vary—in-house ultrasounds are usually completed during a regular appointment, while more advanced ultrasounds may require a drop-off visit with a specialist. Many results are available the same day, and radiologist-reviewed reports are typically shared within a few days.
What conditions can X-rays and ultrasound diagnose?
Imaging can help identify injuries, lung or heart conditions, abdominal issues, bladder stones, and pregnancy, among others.
How much does a pet X-ray or ultrasound cost?
Petfolk offers transparent pricing. You can view our imaging and diagnostic costs on the Pricing page, and our veterinarian will provide clear estimates before any procedure. We also offer discounts on X-rays through our PetfolkCare Plan, helping make ongoing care more manageable.
How expensive is a CT scan for a dog?
CT scans are advanced imaging procedures typically performed by specialty hospitals. If needed, your Petfolk veterinarian will refer you to a trusted facility and help you understand what to expect. Costs can vary depending on the type of scan, the area being imaged, and the referral facility’s pricing.
