X-rays help answer the questions that worry pet parents most: is something broken, and did my pet swallow something?

Book online, walk in, or call (321) 621-6905.

Why might my pet need an x-ray?

  • A limp that doesn't go away, or a swollen leg

  • A swallowed sock, toy, bone or hair tie

  • Vomiting that won't stop, which can mean a blockage

  • Coughing or fast breathing, to check the lungs and heart size

  • Straining to pee, to look for bladder stones

  • A fall, a slip on a hard floor, or an injury on a trip

  • A checkup of the hips, spine or belly in an older pet

Can x-rays be done during a visit while we're on vacation?

Yes. Many families who come to this clinic are visiting the area, and a hurt pet doesn't wait for the trip home.

In a time of need, Petfolk saw us almost immediately and turned a tragedy into something a little more bearable while on vacation.

Walk in, or book online for the soonest time. The team can send the images and notes to your vet back home, so they can follow up.

What happens during an x-ray?

  1. The vet examines your pet and explains why an x-ray would help.

  2. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

  3. A team member gently positions your pet on the table. Most pets need two or more views.

  4. The images appear on screen in minutes.

  5. The vet walks you through what they see and what comes next.

Most pets lie still with Fear Free handling, gentle holds and treats. A pet in pain or very nervous may get a light sedative, but only after the vet talks it over with you.

Some x-rays get a second opinion. Across Petfolk, more than three in four x-ray studies were also read by a specialist radiologist, and about a quarter of those reads were sent as rush requests (Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026). That second read can add detail when a case is unclear.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Usually not. For a belly x-ray that's planned ahead, the vet may ask you to hold breakfast. If your pet may have swallowed something, bring the packaging or a piece of what's left. Tell the team about any recent falls, even small ones.

What x-rays can and can't show

X-rays show bones, the size and shape of organs, air in the lungs, and dense objects like metal, stones and many toys. They don't show soft things well, such as cloth or some plastics, and they don't show the inside of organs in detail. For that, the vet may suggest an ultrasound. X-ray pricing

The cost depends on how many views your pet needs and whether sedation is used. A sick or urgent exam starts at $135. PetfolkCare membership starts at $199 a year.

When the problem can't wait

Go to a 24-hour emergency hospital if your pet has trouble breathing, keeps trying to vomit with a swollen belly, can't stand, or was hit by a car. The Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida runs a 24-hour hospital in Oakland. For a cut or bite, see wound and injury care in Lake Buena Vista.
