Pet Wound & Injury Care in Lake Buena Vista, FL, From Your Local Vet

Cuts, bites, torn nails and paw injuries, cleaned and treated the same day.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Lake Buena Vista is a vet in Lake Buena Vista, FL, that treats cuts, bites, torn nails and other injuries in dogs and cats, the same day. Even a small wound can hide damage under the skin or get infected fast in Florida heat. A same-day visit lets the vet clean it well and decide if it needs stitches.

Call (321) 621-6905, book online, or walk in. The clinic is open weekends.

Does this injury need a 24-hour hospital?

Go straight to a 24-hour emergency hospital if your pet:

  • is bleeding heavily and it won't slow with firm pressure

  • was hit by a car, fell from a height or was attacked by a large animal

  • has a wound to the chest or belly, or an object stuck in the body

  • has trouble breathing, pale gums or has collapsed

  • can't stand or has a leg bent at an odd angle

The Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida runs a 24-hour hospital on W Colonial Drive in Oakland. Call ahead on the way.

For smaller cuts, bites, scrapes, torn nails and limps, Petfolk Lake Buena Vista can help the same day.

What should I do before we get there?

  1. Stay calm and keep your pet still. Even gentle pets may bite when hurt.

  2. Press a clean towel or gauze on a bleeding wound and hold it.

  3. Rinse dirt off with clean water if the wound isn't bleeding much.

  4. Don't use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol. They damage healthy tissue.

  5. Keep your pet from licking the wound on the way in.

Which injuries can the clinic treat?

  • Cuts and scrapes, including cut paw pads

  • Bite wounds from dogs, cats or wildlife

  • Torn or broken nails

  • Limping, sprains and minor joint injuries

  • Hot spots and skin sores

  • Eye scratches and minor eye injuries

  • Injuries from fences, glass or sharp shells

Bite wounds deserve a visit even if they look small. Teeth push bacteria deep under the skin, and the outside hole can look tiny. Many bites need cleaning, antibiotics and pain relief.

My baby got her nail caught in an escalator and was bleeding everywhere.

Hurt while on vacation

A lot of the clinic's Google reviews come from families on a trip. Escalators, hotel doors, resort walkways and new trails can all lead to a torn nail or cut pad. If your pet gets hurt while you're visiting, walk in. Bring any records on your phone, and the team can send the visit notes to your vet back home.

Near lakes and ponds, keep your dog leashed and away from the water's edge. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says alligators are most active between dusk and dawn.

How will the vet treat the wound?

The vet checks how deep it is and whether anything is damaged beneath. Treatment may include clipping the fur, flushing the wound, pain relief, antibiotics, a bandage, or stitches with sedation. If a limp needs a closer look, the clinic has digital x-rays on site.

You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit. Fear Free handling keeps a hurt, scared pet as calm as possible.

At home, check the wound twice a day. A little pink skin and a small scab are normal. Swelling that grows, a bad smell, pus, or a wound that opens up again are signs to call the clinic. Keep the cone on, even when your pet seems fine, because a few minutes of licking can pull out stitches. Short leash walks only, and no swimming or baths until the vet says the wound has closed.
