Prescription Pet Food in Noblesville, IN, From Your Local Vet

Vet-prescribed diets for stomach, kidney, bladder, weight and recovery needs.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Noblesville is a vet in Noblesville, IN, that prescribes therapeutic diets for dogs and cats. A prescription diet is food made to help treat a health problem, such as a sensitive stomach, bladder crystals, kidney disease or extra weight. The vet chooses the diet after an exam. Ask the team if your pet's diet is in stock to take home that day.

Call (463) 217-5944 or book online to ask about a diet.

How is prescription food different from store food?

Prescription diets are made to stricter targets for one job. A kidney diet limits phosphorus. A bladder diet changes the urine to dissolve or prevent certain crystals. A stomach diet is low in fat and easy to digest. Store foods, even premium ones, are made for healthy pets and do not hold to those targets. That is why these diets need a vet's approval.

Which problems can a diet help with?

  • Upset stomach and diarrhea. Gentle, easy-to-digest food while the gut heals.

  • Pancreatitis. Low-fat food to calm the pancreas.

  • Bladder stones and crystals. Diets that dissolve some stones and keep new ones from forming.

  • Kidney disease. Food that eases the load on aging kidneys.

  • Food allergies. Diets with new or broken-down proteins, used in a food trial.

  • Weight loss. Fewer calories with enough protein to keep your pet full.

  • Recovery. Rich, soft food for pets who are healing or not eating well.

Gut diets lead the way. Across Petfolk, more than 8 in 10 prescription diets sent home (84%) are for the stomach and intestines, and about 1 in 10 (11%) is a recovery food (Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026).

How long will my pet need the diet?

It depends on the problem. A stomach diet may be needed for a week or two. A diet that dissolves bladder crystals often runs for a couple of months, with a urine recheck. Kidney and allergy diets are usually long-term. The vet will tell you when to come back and what the next step is.

Can my pet still have treats?

Ask the vet. Regular treats and table food can undo the diet, especially on allergy and bladder diets. Many prescription lines make matching treats, or the vet may let you use pieces of the diet itself as rewards.

Moving to the new food

Switch over about a week unless the vet says to switch now:

  • Days 1 and 2: one quarter new food, three quarters old food.

  • Days 3 and 4: half and half.

  • Days 5 and 6: three quarters new food.

  • Day 7: all new food.

Cats can be picky. Warm canned food a little, or ask about a different flavor or texture in the same diet. Do not let a cat go more than a day without eating. Call the clinic if that happens.

Making the diet work at home

  • Feed everyone in the home the same rules, so no one slips extra food.

  • Measure meals with a cup or a kitchen scale, not by eye.

  • Keep the bag sealed and in a cool spot.

  • Note changes in stool, thirst, weight or energy to share at the recheck.

The team uses Fear Free, gentle handling at weigh-ins and rechecks, so regular visits stay easy for your pet.

You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment, including the diet. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit. Ask the team about bag sizes and refills when you check out.

When a food problem cannot wait

A pet who will not eat at all, keeps vomiting, or strains in the litter box with little or no urine needs care today. A male cat who cannot pee is at high risk and should go to a 24-hour hospital right away, such as MedVet Indianapolis in Carmel, if the clinic is closed.
