Rabies Vaccine in Missouri City, TX, From Your Local Vet
The shot your dog or cat needs every year in Missouri City, with a certificate for the city.
Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Missouri City gives rabies vaccines to dogs and cats, with an exam first and a signed certificate when you leave. Missouri City ordinance asks for a rabies vaccine every year for every dog and cat over 4 months, plus registration with Missouri City Animal Services.
That yearly rule is stricter than some cities nearby, so if you just moved here, check the date on your pet's last certificate. A vet in Missouri City can get you up to date in one short visit.

How often does my pet need a rabies shot in Missouri City?
Every year, under city ordinance. The first shot is given at about 12 to 16 weeks old. A Missouri City pet license is valid for 1 year from the date of the vaccine, so the two renew together. A dog or cat without proof of a rabies vaccine or city registration can be impounded by the Animal Services Division.
How do I register my pet with the city?
Missouri City Animal Services takes registrations three ways:
By mail to the shelter at 1923 Scanlin Road, with the form, the fee and a copy of the rabies certificate
By email, with "Pet Registration" in the subject line
In person at the Animal Services facility on Scanlin Road
Bring proof of spay or neuter and microchip if your pet has them. Fees are lower for pets that are fixed and chipped. Missouri City also limits each household to four dogs and cats.
Why does rabies still matter in Texas?
Once signs of rabies start, there is no cure, and it can spread to people. In 2025, Texas confirmed rabies in 19 cats and 5 dogs. Bats made up about half of all positive animals that year, and 15% of bats tested were positive. Bats roost in attics and under eaves, and a curious cat or dog is often the first to find a grounded one.
If your pet tangles with a bat, raccoon, skunk or fox, don't touch the wild animal with bare hands. Call the clinic. A pet with a current rabies vaccine is far easier to protect after an exposure.
What happens at a rabies vaccine visit?
A quick exam to make sure your pet is healthy enough for vaccines today.
The shot, given with treats and Fear Free handling.
A signed rabies certificate. Keep it with your city registration papers.
A tag, if your pet needs one.
A reminder for next year's date, so the shot and the city license stay in step.
Many pets get other due vaccines or a heartworm test at the same visit. Across our Houston-area clinics, about 7 in 10 puppies who start their shots with us also get their rabies vaccine with us (puppies starting Oct 1, 2025 to Jun 30, 2026).
Very caring and good with my dogs.

If your pet bites someone
Texas law requires a dog or cat that bites a person to be quarantined for 10 days, whatever its vaccine status. A current vaccine and certificate make that process much simpler. Call the clinic for help with paperwork after a bite. Wash any bite wound on a person with soap and water and tell them to call their doctor, since only a doctor can decide whether they need rabies shots.
Rabies shot costs
A wellness exam at Petfolk Missouri City starts at $99, and the vaccine is added to it. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
Reactions are rare
A sore spot or a sleepy day is normal. Face swelling, hives or vomiting soon after the shot needs a call. Trouble breathing or collapse needs a 24-hour emergency hospital such as VEG on University Blvd in Sugar Land. See dog vaccines and cat vaccines for the rest of each plan.
