Cat Vaccines in Missouri City, TX, From Your Local Vet

Rabies and FVRCP for indoor and outdoor cats, given calmly and quickly.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Missouri City vaccinates cats at a short, calm visit with an exam first. Every cat needs rabies and FVRCP, the combination vaccine for feline herpesvirus, calicivirus and panleukopenia. Cats that go outside, or live with a cat who does, may also need feline leukemia (FeLV).

Indoor cats count too. A bat in the attic or a cat that slips out the patio door can turn a "no risk" cat into an exposed one. A vet in Missouri City also has to follow the city's yearly rabies rule, which covers indoor cats as well.

Call (832) 225-3315 or book online. The clinic is open weekends.

Which vaccines does my cat need?

  • Rabies: every cat over 4 months. Missouri City ordinance asks for it every year, along with registration with Missouri City Animal Services.

  • FVRCP: every cat. After the kitten series and a 1-year booster, most adult cats get it every 1 to 3 years.

  • FeLV: kittens, and adult cats that go outdoors or live with a cat whose status is unknown.

The vet adjusts this for age, health and lifestyle. Not every cat needs every vaccine. Bring any old records, even a photo of a shelter receipt, so nothing gets repeated.

Do indoor cats in Missouri City really need a rabies shot?

Yes. It's the law here, and the risk is real. In 2025 Texas confirmed rabies in 19 cats and 5 dogs, and bats made up about half of all positive animals. Bats find their way into garages, attics and screened porches, and an indoor cat is often the first to find one.

If your cat ever brings in a bat or another wild animal, keep everyone away from it and call the clinic. A vaccinated cat is far easier to protect after an exposure. City registration also costs less when your cat is spayed or neutered and microchipped, so bring those records when you sign up.

How do you keep cats calm at the vet?

Fear Free handling is standard at every Petfolk clinic, and it matters most for cats. The team lets your cat stay in the bottom of the carrier when possible, uses towels, treats and quiet voices, and works in short steps.

They treated my kitten very well and she is normally a very scared cat!

Help at home:

  • Leave the carrier out with a soft blanket for a week before the visit.

  • Spray the blanket with a calming pheromone, if your cat likes it.

  • Cover the carrier with a towel in the car and on the way in.

  • Ask the vet about anti-anxiety medicine before the visit for very scared cats.

What happens after the shots?

Most cats are a little sleepy for a day and may skip a meal. A small firm bump where the shot went in can last a few weeks. Call the clinic if the bump is still there after a month or keeps growing. Vomiting, face swelling or trouble breathing soon after a vaccine needs a 24-hour emergency hospital such as VEG on University Blvd in Sugar Land.

Cost of cat vaccines

A wellness exam at Petfolk Missouri City starts at $99, and vaccines are added based on what your cat needs. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

Between Oct 1, 2025 and Sep 30, 2026, about 4 in 10 cat vaccine visits at our Houston-area clinics were for kittens under a year old. If you have a new kitten, see kitten vaccines for the full series. For the shot itself and city rules, see rabies vaccine.

Pair it with prevention

The vaccine visit is a good time to start heartworm, flea and tick prevention. Mosquitoes get indoors, and there is no approved heartworm treatment for cats, so prevention is the only protection.

Adopted your cat from Missouri City Animal Services or a rescue group? Bring the adoption papers. Shelters often give the first FVRCP dose, and the vet can count it so your cat doesn't get extra shots.
