Rabies Vaccine in Lake Buena Vista, FL, From Your Local Vet
The one vaccine Florida law requires, given gently, with a certificate to keep.
Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Lake Buena Vista is a vet in Lake Buena Vista, FL, that gives rabies vaccines to dogs and cats. Florida law requires every dog, cat and ferret 4 months or older to be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed vet. You leave with a rabies certificate.
Rabies has no cure once signs appear, in pets or people. The vaccine is the simple, reliable way to keep it out of your home.
Call (321) 621-6905 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome, and the clinic is open weekends.
What does Florida law require?
Florida Statute 828.30 says all dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months of age or older must get a rabies vaccine from a licensed vet, using a vaccine licensed by the USDA for that species. The time between shots follows the vaccine maker's directions. The vet must give you a rabies vaccination certificate and also give one to the local animal control office. Orange County Animal Services says the same: rabies vaccination is required for pets four months and older.
How often does my pet need a rabies booster?
The first rabies shot lasts one year. After that, your pet may get a one-year or three-year vaccine, depending on the product and your pet's history. If a booster is late, the next shot may only count for one year, so staying on schedule saves you visits.
The vet at Petfolk Lake Buena Vista puts the next due date on your record, so you don't have to remember it.
Is the rabies shot safe for my pet?
For most pets, yes. The most common side effects are a sore spot, a quiet evening or a small bump under the skin that fades. Less often, a pet gets hives, face swelling or vomiting, which needs a call to the clinic. Tell the vet if your pet has reacted to any vaccine before, so they can plan around it.
They administered a rabies vaccine and were extremely gentle with our pup.

Fear Free handling is how every Petfolk clinic works. For a nervous dog or cat, the team gives the shot quickly, with treats and a calm voice.
If your pet tangles with wildlife
Rabies is carried by wild animals, and pets meet them in backyards and along the water at dusk. If your pet fights with a wild animal, or you find a bat in the house:
Don't touch the animal with bare hands.
Keep your pet inside and away from other pets.
Call your vet, and call your doctor if any person was bitten or scratched.
Have your pet's rabies certificate ready. Pets with current shots are handled very differently from unvaccinated ones after a bite.
Your rabies certificate and tag
Keep the certificate somewhere you can find it fast, and save a photo on your phone. Boarders, groomers, trainers and other vets will ask for it. Orange County's dog park rules also say dogs must display current tags. If you're moving to Lake Buena Vista from another state, bring your old certificate, and the vet can tell you when your pet's next shot is due.
How much is a rabies vaccine?
The vaccine is priced on its own. It is often given at a wellness exam, which starts at $99, or is included with a PetfolkCare membership. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
If your pet has trouble breathing or collapses after a shot, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as the Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida in Oakland. This kind of reaction is rare. For the rest of your dog's shots, see dog vaccines in Lake Buena Vista.
