Dog Vaccines in Lake Buena Vista, FL, From Your Local Vet
The shots your dog needs for home, boarding and the dog park, explained plainly.
Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Lake Buena Vista is a vet in Lake Buena Vista, FL, that vaccinates dogs of every age. Every dog needs the core vaccines, rabies and DHPP. Others depend on where your dog goes and what it does.
The vet asks about your dog's week: daycare, boarding, grooming, hikes, the dog park. Then they pick the shots that fit.
Call (321) 621-6905 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome, and the clinic is open weekends.
Which vaccines does every dog need?
Two vaccines are called "core," which means every dog should have them:
Rabies. Florida law requires rabies vaccines for dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months and older, given by a licensed vet. Orange County Animal Services repeats that rule for pets four months and older.
DHPP (sometimes written DA2PP). This one shot covers distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvovirus. Parvo spreads through infected stool and can live in soil for a long time.
After the puppy series, both are boosted on a schedule. Depending on the vaccine, that can be every year or every three years.
Which extra vaccines might my dog need?
These "lifestyle" vaccines depend on your dog's habits:
Bordetella (kennel cough). Often required by boarding kennels, groomers and daycares.
Leptospirosis. A bacteria spread through the urine of wildlife, often in standing water and wet ground. It can make dogs and people sick, so the vet may suggest it for dogs that splash in puddles or ponds.
Canine influenza. Some boarding and daycare spots ask for it. If yours does, ask the team about it when you book.
The vet talks through each one with you before anything is given. You can decline any of them.
Planning around the dog park and boarding
Orange County runs several dog parks near Lake Buena Vista, including the one at Doctor Phillips Community Park on Buenavista Woods Blvd and Lester Mandell Park on Central Florida Parkway. County rules say sick dogs and females in heat must stay out. Most boarding places and groomers want vaccine proof before your dog's stay, so check their list a couple of weeks ahead; some also want Bordetella given at least a few days before drop-off.

What happens at a vaccine visit?
The vet does a quick exam to make sure your dog is healthy enough for shots today.
You talk through which vaccines are due and why.
Treats first, then the shots. Fear Free handling is used at every Petfolk clinic.
You get a record of every vaccine, with dates, to share with boarders and groomers.
Mild soreness or a sleepy evening is common after shots. Call the clinic if your dog's face swells, it gets hives or vomits more than once.
Your rabies certificate
Under Florida law, the vet who gives the rabies shot hands you a rabies vaccination certificate and sends a copy to animal control. Keep a photo on your phone. Boarders, groomers and trainers ask for it, and it is the first thing a new vet will want if your dog ever bites someone or gets bitten. If you moved here from another state, bring your old certificate and the vet can tell you when the next shot is due.
What do dog vaccines cost at Petfolk Lake Buena Vista?
Prices depend on which vaccines your dog needs. A wellness exam, which is the usual time for boosters, starts at $99 or is included with a PetfolkCare membership. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
If a reaction looks serious
Serious vaccine reactions are rare. If your dog has trouble breathing, collapses or its face swells fast, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as the Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida in Oakland. For puppies, see puppy vaccines in Lake Buena Vista.
