Call (470) 256-0274 or book a vaccine visit online. Walk-ins are welcome.

Which vaccines does every dog need?

Two vaccines are core for every dog:

  • Rabies. Rabies has no cure, and vaccination is how you protect your dog and your family. See our rabies vaccine page.

  • DA2PP (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvo). Parvo spreads through infected stool and can live in soil for a long time. Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are most at risk.

After the puppy series, most adult dogs get boosters every one to three years, based on the vaccine and the vet's advice.

Does my dog need lifestyle vaccines?

That depends on your dog's week. The vet will ask a few questions and suggest only what fits:

  • Bordetella (kennel cough) for dogs who go to daycare, boarding or grooming, or play at off-leash parks.

  • Leptospirosis for dogs who drink from puddles or walk where wildlife and rats roam. Lepto spreads through urine in water and wet soil.

  • Canine influenza for dogs who are around many other dogs, such as at boarding.

  • Lyme for dogs who hike in tick country or travel to the Northeast.

A city dog's vaccine plan

A Grant Park dog may see dozens of other dogs in a week. Atlanta has eight official off-leash dog parks, and two are close by: South Bend on Compton Dr SE and Walker Park on Memorial Terrace SE. Most daycares and boarding places ask for rabies, DA2PP and Bordetella before your dog's first stay.

Outside the dog parks, Atlanta requires a leash in every city park, trail and public space, and police can cite you for an off-leash dog. Leashed dogs still can't go into Zoo Atlanta or near Lake Abana inside Grant Park, so plan your loop around them.

Vaccine day, step by step

  1. The vet does a quick exam first, because vaccines work best in a healthy dog.

  2. The vet explains which shots are due and why.

  3. The team gives the shots with treats and gentle, Fear Free handling.

  4. You get a record for daycare or boarding.

Most dogs are a little sleepy or sore for a day. Skip the long run or the dog park that evening and let your dog rest. Call if you see face swelling, hives or repeated vomiting.

Bring your dog hungry if you can, so treats work better, and bring any old records so nothing is repeated without need.

How much do dog vaccines cost?

The exam for a wellness visit starts at $99, and each vaccine is priced on its own. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit. A PetfolkCare membership starts at $199 a year and covers routine care like yearly exams and core vaccines under one fee.

Adopted a dog with no records?

If you don't know your dog's vaccine history, the vet may restart the core series or suggest a blood test to check protection. Bring any paperwork from the shelter or rescue. Across Petfolk, 79% of puppies who started their vaccine series with us from October 2025 to June 2026 came back for at least a second distemper-parvo booster.

Reactions that need help now

A serious vaccine reaction is rare. If your dog's face swells fast, they have trouble breathing or they collapse, go straight to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as MedVet Atlanta on Century Circle NE.
