Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Vintage Park is a vet in Vintage Park, Houston, TX, that completes domestic health certificates for dogs and cats traveling to another US state. The paper is also known as a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI): the vet examines your pet, then signs that it looked healthy and has the vaccines the destination asks for, rabies in most states. Only a few of its vets complete them, and only on set days, so ask by calling (346) 658-0421 before you book.
Certificates here cover trips to other US states. For a trip beyond the US, see the USDA APHIS pet travel site. Hawaii, Alaska and US territories set extra entry rules, so give your destination when you call.
What if my flight is rebooked after I have the certificate?
Ask your airline whether the certificate you already have still meets its date rule. Many airlines want a certificate dated within about 10 days of the flight, which is common practice and not universal. If your new flight falls outside that window, your pet may need a fresh exam and a new certificate. Call Petfolk Vintage Park with the new date, and the team can tell you whether a vet who completes certificates is available.
Plans change, so build in slack
Delays are common at a large hub like George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), and a missed connection can push a trip back a day or more. Three habits make that less stressful:
Book the certificate visit once the flight is firm, not months ahead.
Keep a spare day or two inside your airline's date window if the airline allows it.
Save the airline's pet rules so you can compare them against any new date.
Does an expired certificate mean starting over?
Usually, yes, for the certificate itself. A certificate records an exam on a certain date, so a new date needs a new exam and new forms. The good news is that the rest of your folder carries over: the rabies certificate, earlier vaccine records, the microchip number and the destination address. Your pet's vaccines do not restart because a certificate expired.
Can the same certificate cover the trip home?
Ask the airline and the state you are returning to. Because a certificate is written for a specific pet, trip and date, a return leg may need its own paperwork. Some trips are short enough that one certificate is enough for the airline's window, and some are not. Tell the Petfolk Vintage Park team how long you will be away so the plan matches your dates.
What do I bring when I rebook the visit?
The vet gives your pet an exam, checks the vaccine records and completes the forms for your airline or destination. Bring the rabies certificate, not only the tag, plus your travel dates, the destination address, the airline's written rules and the microchip number if there is one. Many due vaccines can be given on the spot, yet some places want them days before you arrive, so plan early. Petfolk Vintage Park uses Fear Free, gentle handling for nervous pets. Before any test or treatment you'll see an estimate; if the plan changes, the final bill may too.
Which state's rules apply when I change the destination?
Each destination state sets its own rules. The USDA notes that the destination state writes the entry rules for pets, and APHIS does not endorse certificates for moves between states. If the new destination is a different state, contact its State Veterinarian's office, and tell the clinic when you call. The Texas health department's pet entry page shows what one state asks for coming in.
Houston families and Harris County travel
Petfolk Vintage Park is in the Vintage Park shopping center, with access from Vintage Park Boulevard and Louetta Road. Pet parents come from Cypress and Willowbrook, and many of them in Harris County plan trips through IAH. Keep one folder, paper or digital, so a change of plans does not mean a search for records.
After a long delay with a pet in tow
Certificate appointments are planned, not urgent. If your pet has trouble breathing, collapses, has repeated vomiting or seems very distressed after a long delay in a carrier, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital right away. Petfolk Vintage Park is a primary and urgent care clinic, not an emergency hospital.
