Sick Pet Visits

Your pet isn't eating, is limping, or just isn't acting right, but it isn't a crisis. Our Sugar Land clinic near Highway 6 and Southwest Freeway sees dogs and cats for sick visits seven days a week.
The doctor examines your pet, explains what's likely going on, and gives you an estimate before any test or treatment.
Call (346) 436-6295 or book online. For urgent problems, call ahead or book online. We hold same-day spots every day.
When it's an emergency: Go straight to a 24-hour emergency hospital for heatstroke, trouble breathing, collapse, a seizure, or a swollen belly with unproductive retching. We're open 8 AM to 6 PM, seven days a week, and we don't provide overnight care.
Signs Worth a Sick Visit
Eating less, or skipping meals
Vomiting or diarrhea more than once
Limping, stiffness, or trouble with stairs
Drinking or urinating more than usual
Coughing, sneezing, or eye or nose discharge
Hiding, or acting quieter than usual
The American Animal Hospital Association's list of signs not to ignore is a good check when you're unsure.

Sick Visit, Urgent Care, or Emergency?
Sick visit: a problem that's been building for a day or more and isn't getting rapidly worse.
Urgent care: something that needs a doctor today, like a new wound, repeated vomiting, or sudden pain.
Emergency hospital: anything in the red callout above, or a pet getting worse by the hour.
If you're not sure, call and describe what you're seeing.

What Happens at the Visit
You go straight to an exam room and stay with your pet. The doctor asks what you've noticed and when it started, examines your pet, and explains what tests could help and why. Many tests run in our in-clinic lab, and we have digital X-rays and basic ultrasound on site.
“My dog was seen right away, and I could tell the doctor was compassionate and took my concerns to heart.”
— Jamie R., Petfolk client.

Heat Is a Common Culprit Here
Sugar Land summers are long, hot, and humid, and that combination makes it harder for dogs to cool off by panting. Many sick visits from late spring into fall trace back to heat.
Walk early in the morning or after dark, and skip midday play.
Watch flat-faced breeds, older pets, and heavy dogs closely.
Bring water on every walk, and test pavement with your hand.
Heavy panting, drooling, wobbling, or collapse is heatstroke and needs a 24-hour emergency hospital now.
When You Can Wait and Watch
One soft stool, a single vomit after eating grass, or a slight limp that's improving can often be watched for a day. If it's getting worse, keeps coming back, or your pet stops eating, book a visit.
What a Sick Visit Costs
Costs depend on what your pet needs, and you'll get an estimate before any tests or treatment. What changes the total:
The exam; a same-day urgent care visit is $135, or $36 with PetfolkCare
Lab work or X-rays, if the doctor recommends them
Medication or other treatment
A recheck visit, if needed
