Wellness Exams in Sandy Springs, GA, From Your Local Vet

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Sandy Springs is a vet in Sandy Springs, GA, that does wellness exams for dogs and cats of every age. Most healthy adult pets need one a year; puppies, kittens and seniors usually need more.

A wellness exam is the visit where nothing seems wrong. That is the point: the vet looks for problems while they are still small, and you leave knowing what is due and what can wait.

Call (678) 673-3977 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome, and the clinic is open weekends.

What does a wellness exam at Petfolk Sandy Springs include?

At Petfolk Sandy Springs, the vet checks your pet from nose to tail and then talks you through what they found. A typical exam covers:

1. Weight and body condition, compared with last time.

2. Eyes, ears, mouth and teeth.

3. Heart and lungs, listened to with a stethoscope.

4. Belly, lymph nodes, skin and coat, felt by hand.

5. Joints and gait, watched as your pet walks.

6. A review of vaccines and parasite prevention.

Fear Free handling is standard at every Petfolk clinic. The team goes slowly, uses treats and lets a nervous pet settle before the exam starts.

How often does my pet need a checkup?

Most adult dogs and cats need a wellness exam once a year at Petfolk Sandy Springs. Puppies and kittens come in every few weeks during their vaccine series. Pets about 7 and older often do better with a visit every six months, because changes in weight, teeth and kidney values can move faster with age.

Questions worth bringing

The exam is your time to ask. Pet parents in Sandy Springs often bring questions like:

• Is this lump something to test?

• Which vaccines does my pet need for daycare, boarding or the new Morgan Falls Dog Park?

• Is my pet at a healthy weight, and how much should I feed?

• Does an indoor cat still need heartworm prevention?

Write them down before you come. It keeps the visit focused on what matters to you.

Why prevention matters in North Fulton

Georgia ranked among the top ten states for heartworm cases in the American Heartworm Society's 2025 incidence survey. Ticks are also common after walks along the Chattahoochee River trails. So at Petfolk Sandy Springs the wellness exam is also when the vet checks that heartworm, flea and tick prevention are current and the right dose for your pet's weight.

Fulton County also requires dogs and cats to be licensed, and the county's pet registration page asks for a copy of the rabies certificate. Your pet's record from the visit has it.

What does a wellness exam cost in Sandy Springs?

A wellness exam at Petfolk Sandy Springs starts at $99, or is included with a PetfolkCare membership, which starts at $199 a year. Vaccines, lab tests and prevention are priced separately. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

If the checkup turns into a sick visit

Sometimes the vet finds something during a routine exam, like an ear infection or a sore tooth. Petfolk Sandy Springs can often start treatment the same day. If your pet suddenly has trouble breathing, collapses or has a seizure, skip the clinic and go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as BluePearl Pet Hospital on Abernathy Rd NE.
