Puppy Vaccines in Sandy Springs, GA, From Your Local Vet
A shot series spaced a few weeks apart, planned at your puppy's first visit.
Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Sandy Springs is a vet in Sandy Springs, GA, that vaccinates puppies from about 6 to 8 weeks old. Puppies need a series of shots a few weeks apart until about 16 weeks, because the protection they got from their mother fades at a different time for every puppy.
The first visit sets the whole plan. Bring any breeder or shelter records, and the vet will usually continue the series rather than restart it.
Call (678) 673-3977, book online or walk in with your new puppy.
How many puppy shots are there, and when?
At Petfolk Sandy Springs, a typical puppy series looks like this, adjusted to your puppy's age and history:
About 6 to 8 weeks: first DAPP (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvovirus).
Every 3 to 4 weeks after that: DAPP boosters until about 16 weeks old.
From about 12 weeks: leptospirosis, given as two doses a few weeks apart.
Around 12 to 16 weeks: rabies.
Lifestyle vaccines like Bordetella (kennel cough) if your puppy will go to puppy class, daycare or a groomer.
Across Petfolk, puppies typically get their first shot with us at about 11 weeks old (first doses Oct 1, 2025 to Jun 30, 2026). About 8 in 10 of those puppies (79%) came back for at least a second distemper-parvo booster, and 78% got their rabies vaccine with us too.
What happens at the first puppy visit?
The first puppy visit at Petfolk Sandy Springs is part exam, part orientation. The vet checks your puppy nose to tail, looks for worms and fleas, gives the shots that are due, and maps out the next visits. There is time for your list: crate training, feeding amounts, chewing, nipping and when to spay or neuter.
Fear Free handling is standard at every Petfolk clinic. Bring your puppy hungry so treats work well, a favorite toy, and a fresh stool sample in a sealed bag so the team can check for worms.
I came in on a Sunday morning as a walk in to get my brand new 8 week puppy examined and they were so sweet and got me right in!

Safe outings before the series is done
Parvovirus spreads through stool and survives in soil and on surfaces for a long time. Until the vet says your puppy is protected:
Skip dog parks, including the renovated Morgan Falls Dog Park, and busy trails along the Chattahoochee River.
Carry your puppy, or use a cart, in pet stores and other public places.
Play dates are fine with healthy, vaccinated dogs you know.
Puppy classes that check vaccine records are a good choice for early socialization.
What do puppy vaccines cost?
Puppy shots are given at wellness exams, which start at $99 at Petfolk Sandy Springs, or are included with PetfolkCare, which starts at $199 a year. Each vaccine is priced separately. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
A missed booster is fixable
Life gets busy. If a booster is late, call the clinic. A short delay usually means picking up where you left off; a long gap may mean repeating a dose. Hold off on dog parks in the meantime.
Parvo signs that need help now
A puppy who isn't fully vaccinated and has vomiting, bloody diarrhea, or won't eat or drink can have parvovirus, which gets serious fast. Call Petfolk Sandy Springs right away during open hours, or go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as BluePearl Pet Hospital on Abernathy Rd NE.
