Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Pinecrest is a vet in Pinecrest, FL, that completes domestic health certificates for dogs and cats going to another US state. If your pet is older or takes medicine every day, the visit does two jobs: it produces the certificate, and it gives you a plan for keeping the medicine on schedule while you travel.
Only some Petfolk vets do certificates, and only on some days, so call (786) 655-4582 to check before you book. Certificates are by appointment, so mention your pet's age and any medicines when you call.
What is a health certificate, and does a senior pet need one?
A domestic health certificate, also called a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI), is a vet's signed statement, made after an exam, that your pet looked healthy and is current on required vaccines, which means rabies in most states. Age does not exempt a pet, so a senior dog or cat headed to another state needs the same paperwork as a young one when an airline or destination asks for it.
Rules come from the destination state. The USDA APHIS pet travel FAQ says to contact the State Veterinarian's office in your destination state. Hawaii, Alaska and the territories have their own extra entry rules, so mention your destination when you call.
The certificate visit, built around an older pet
At Petfolk Pinecrest, the vet examines your pet and checks vaccine records, then completes the certificate if everything fits. For an older pet, the exam is also a fair moment to ask whether the trip itself is a good idea. Long travel days can be hard on stiff joints, heart or kidney conditions, and anxious pets, and your vet can tell you what to watch for.
Petfolk uses Fear Free handling at every clinic, so slow, gentle exams are standard for older pets who dislike being moved around. If bloodwork or other tests make sense, you'll get an estimate before any test or treatment, and the final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
Bring:
The rabies certificate (the paper, not just the tag).
Your destination address and travel dates.
The airline's written pet rules, if you are flying.
A list of every medicine, with doses and times.
Microchip details, if your pet has a chip.
Pack the medicine like it matters, because it does
Travel is when daily medicine most often slips. Plan it before you leave:
Carry the medicine with you, not in checked luggage, in its original labeled container.
Pack more doses than the trip needs, in case a flight is delayed.
Ask the vet how to handle time zones and whether a dose can shift by an hour or two.
Write down the pharmacy and refill details so a stranger could read them.
Petfolk Pinecrest has an on-site pharmacy for its patients, and the team can talk through refills before you go. Our pet pharmacy page explains how prescriptions work.
Booking around the flight
Airlines set their own rules, and many ask for a certificate dated within about 10 days of the flight. That is common practice, not a universal rule, so check your airline. If your pet is due for a wellness exam anyway, ask whether the visits can be combined.
From Pinecrest to MIA or the open road
Pet parents here fly out of the Miami airport (MIA) or drive north on US-1, and both trips start with the same paperwork. Petfolk Pinecrest sits on South Dixie Highway (US-1), and families come from Palmetto Bay, Coral Gables and South Miami.
Petfolk Pinecrest completes certificates for trips to other US states only; for travel outside the US, the USDA APHIS pet travel site explains the steps.
When to skip the trip and call
If your senior pet seems weaker, is drinking or urinating far more than usual, or stops eating before departure, call Petfolk Pinecrest rather than packing the car. Go to a 24-hour emergency hospital right away for collapse, trouble breathing or a seizure. Petfolk is primary and urgent care, not an emergency hospital.
