Dog Vaccines in North Hills, Raleigh, NC, From Your Local Vet
Core shots for every dog, plus the extras that fit where your dog goes.
Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - North Hills is a vet in North Hills, Raleigh, that vaccinates adult dogs. Every dog needs the core vaccines: rabies and the distemper-parvo combination. Other vaccines depend on your dog's life, such as boarding, daycare, grooming or trips to Raleigh's dog parks.
The vet looks at where your dog goes and who it meets, then suggests only what makes sense.
Call (984) 983-4900 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome.
Which vaccines does my dog need?
At Petfolk North Hills, every adult dog gets the core vaccines, and lifestyle vaccines are added based on risk:
Rabies. Required by North Carolina law for dogs over four months old (G.S. 130A-185).
Distemper-parvo combination (often called DHPP or DAPP). Protects against distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvovirus.
Leptospirosis. For dogs that drink from or swim in puddles, creeks and lakes, or meet wildlife in the yard.
Bordetella (kennel cough). Often required for boarding, daycare and grooming.
Canine influenza. For dogs in close contact with many other dogs.
Ask the team which lifestyle vaccines are offered at the clinic and which ones your boarding or daycare needs.
How often do adult dogs need boosters?
After the puppy series and a booster at about one year, most adult dogs at Petfolk North Hills get the distemper-parvo vaccine every one to three years and rabies every one or three years, depending on the vaccine used. Leptospirosis and Bordetella are often given yearly. The vet will set a schedule and the Petfolk app keeps the due dates in one place.
My dog gets pretty anxious when vaccine time comes around, but the staff were all absolutely lovely.

Dog parks, daycare and the rules in Raleigh
The City of Raleigh's dog park rules say every dog must be "healthy and fully vaccinated," and puppies younger than four months are not allowed. That covers off-leash spots near North Hills such as Millbrook Exchange Dog Park on Spring Forest Road and Baileywick Park Dog Park. Many daycares and boarding kennels also ask for proof of rabies, distemper-parvo and Bordetella, sometimes given at least a week or two before a stay. Book ahead if a trip is coming up.
Rabies exposure in Wake County
Wake County Public Health says a pet "must have a booster rabies shot within 72 hours if it is exposed to an animal that could be rabid" (wake.gov/rabies). In Raleigh, that can mean a fight with a raccoon or fox in the backyard, or a bat in the house. Keeping your dog's rabies vaccine current makes that situation much simpler. If it happens, call Petfolk North Hills right away.
What do dog vaccines cost?
Vaccines are priced on their own and are often given during a wellness exam, which starts at $99 at Petfolk North Hills. A PetfolkCare membership, which starts at $199 a year, includes wellness exams and gives discounts on routine vaccinations. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
Making shot day easier
Every Petfolk clinic uses Fear Free handling. For dogs who dread the vet, the team uses treats, distraction and a calm pace, and gives shots on the floor if that is easier. Bring your dog hungry so treats work better, bring a favorite toy, and bring any vaccine records from a previous vet or shelter so the team can see what is already done and what is due next.
Mild soreness or sleepiness for a day after vaccines is common. Call the clinic if your dog has vomiting, hives or face swelling after a shot. If your dog has trouble breathing or collapses, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as BluePearl Pet Hospital on Paragon Park Road.
