Cat Vaccines in North Hills, Raleigh, NC, From Your Local Vet
The shots your cat needs, given calmly, with nothing extra pushed.
Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - North Hills is a vet in North Hills, Raleigh, that vaccinates cats of every age. Every cat needs two core vaccines: rabies and FVRCP. Cats that go outside or live with other cats who do may also need the feline leukemia (FeLV) vaccine.
Yes, that includes indoor cats. North Carolina law requires rabies vaccination for cats, not only dogs.
Call (984) 983-4900 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome.
Which vaccines does my cat actually need?
At Petfolk North Hills, the vet bases your cat's vaccines on age and lifestyle:
Rabies. Required in North Carolina for cats over four months old under G.S. 130A-185.
FVRCP. Protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis (a herpes virus), calicivirus and panleukopenia (feline distemper). All three spread easily between cats.
FeLV (feline leukemia). Recommended for all kittens, then for adult cats that go outdoors, live with an outdoor cat, or are fostered or adopted into multi-cat homes.
Does an indoor cat really need shots?
Yes. Wake County Public Health calls the cat "the most commonly rabies-infected domesticated animal," and notes that most human rabies cases come from contact with bats (wake.gov/rabies). Bats can get into homes, and indoor cats catch them. Indoor cats can also slip out a door or meet the virus that causes panleukopenia on shoes and clothes. That is why Petfolk North Hills still gives indoor cats the core vaccines.
How often does my cat need boosters?
After the kitten series and a one-year booster, most adult cats get FVRCP every one to three years. Rabies is given every one or three years, depending on the vaccine. FeLV boosters depend on ongoing risk. The vet will tell you what is due at each visit.
The vet was warm and pleasant and fed her another tube treat while my cat got her shots.

Making the trip easier for your cat
Every Petfolk clinic follows Fear Free handling, which matters a lot with cats. A few tips for the drive down Six Forks Road:
Leave the carrier out at home for a few days with a soft blanket inside.
Cover the carrier with a towel in the car.
Skip breakfast so a lickable treat works better at the clinic.
Let your cat stay in the bottom half of the carrier for the exam if that is calmer.
The North Hills team lets cats come out on their own time and keeps the room quiet.
Adopted, rescued or brand new to you
Many North Hills cats come from shelters and rescues, including the Wake County Animal Center at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh. Shelter cats often get a first round of shots before adoption, so bring the adoption paperwork with the vaccine names and dates. The vet at Petfolk North Hills reads that record, counts what still needs a booster and avoids repeating what is already done. If there is no record at all, the vet usually treats your cat as unvaccinated and restarts the core series with a booster a few weeks later. Moving from another state? Bring your old vet's records too.
What do cat vaccines cost at Petfolk North Hills?
Vaccines are priced individually and are usually given at a wellness exam, which starts at $99. PetfolkCare membership starts at $199 a year, covers wellness exams and gives discounts on routine vaccinations. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.
After the shots
Some cats are sleepy or a little sore for a day. Call Petfolk North Hills if your cat has vomiting, facial swelling or a lump at the shot site that lasts more than a few weeks. If your cat has trouble breathing or collapses after a vaccine, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as BluePearl Pet Hospital on Paragon Park Road in Raleigh.
