Which surgeries are done at Petfolk Noblesville?
Many routine soft-tissue surgeries can be done at the clinic, such as:
removing skin lumps and growths;
repairing cuts and bite wounds that need more than a few stitches;
spays and neuters;
taking small samples (biopsies) to send to a lab.
Ask the team which procedures are done in Noblesville. For complex surgery on bones, joints or the chest, the vet will refer you to a surgical specialist and help you choose one.
Should a lump come off?
Lump removal is one of the most common reasons for surgery. Across Petfolk, when spays, neuters and dental work are set aside, more than a third of dog surgeries (38%) are to take off a lump or mass, and about 7 in 10 surgery patients overall (69%) are dogs (Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026).
Not every lump needs surgery. The vet often starts with a needle sample in the exam room. A fatty lump that stays small may only need watching. A lump that grows fast, bleeds, feels firm and fixed, or shows worrying cells is usually best removed with a margin of normal skin. The removed tissue can go to a lab so you know exactly what it was.
Getting ready for surgery day
The vet may run blood work in the weeks before, to check that the kidneys and liver can handle anesthesia.
Follow the food instructions exactly. Most pets skip breakfast that morning, and water is usually fine.
Give regular medicine only as the vet says. Ask about insulin and heart medicine.
Bring a leash for dogs and a carrier for cats, and plan for pick-up later that day.
You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit, for example if the vet finds a second lump and you agree to remove it too.
How is my pet kept safe under anesthesia?
Before surgery, the vet checks your pet again and gives medicine to calm them and ease pain. During surgery, a team member monitors your pet from start to finish, and the team keeps them warm. Pain medicine is given before your pet wakes up and is sent home too.
The team uses Fear Free, gentle handling from drop-off to pick-up. Nervous pets may get a calming medicine at home before they come in. Ask about it at the consult.
Home again after surgery
The first night, keep your pet quiet, warm and inside. Offer a small meal and water. Grogginess is normal for up to a day.
For the next 10 to 14 days:
keep the cone on, even at night, so your pet cannot lick or chew the incision;
walk dogs on a short leash only, with no running, jumping or rough play;
keep the incision dry, with no baths or swimming;
check the incision once or twice a day.
Many dogs here are used to long walks on the Midland Trace Trail. Save the trail for after the stitch check, and use short neighborhood loops until then.
When to call the clinic
Call (463) 217-5944 if the incision is red, swollen, leaking or open, if your pet stops eating for more than a day, or if they seem in more pain instead of less. If your pet has pale gums, bleeding that will not stop, or trouble breathing, go to a 24-hour hospital such as MedVet Indianapolis in Carmel.
