Wondering whether it counts as an emergency? Plenty of scary-looking problems turn out to be urgent care problems, and a quick call to the team helps you sort out which one you have.

Call (817) 241-2355 or book online. Walk-ins are welcome.

When is a 24-hour emergency hospital the better choice?

Go to a 24-hour emergency hospital right away if your pet can't breathe well, has collapsed, is having a seizure, was hit by a car, is bleeding heavily, or has a hard, swollen belly and keeps trying to vomit. Petfolk Mansfield handles primary and urgent care, and it does not run an emergency hospital. Close by in Mansfield, Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists at 301 U.S. 287 Frontage Rd runs a 24-hour emergency service, holidays included.

What can Petfolk Mansfield treat the same day?

Petfolk Mansfield sees most same-day problems that hurt or worry you but don't threaten your pet's life. These are the visits Mansfield families book most:

• An upset stomach: throwing up or loose stool since yesterday

• A dog favoring one leg after a run at the park

• Cuts, scrapes and small bites, coyote scuffles included

• Pawing at an ear or tilting the head

• One eye held shut or looking cloudy

• Hot spots, hives or a face that suddenly puffed up

• Straining to pee or poop

• Swallowing a toy, a ribbon or something off the counter

Many lab tests run in-house, and digital x-rays and basic ultrasound are on site, so the answer often comes before you leave. Medicine comes from the clinic's own pharmacy, so there's no second stop on the way home.

How does a same-day visit work?

1. Walk in, or grab the earliest online slot.

2. The team hears the story and does a quick first check of how your pet is breathing.

3. The vet does a full exam and tells you, in plain words, what looks wrong.

4. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

5. You head home with written instructions and a short list of changes that mean a recheck.

Fear Free, gentle handling is standard at Petfolk, which matters most when a pet is already hurting and scared.

We had a minor emergency with our dog, and we were able to get an appointment within the hour.

Mansfield summers and coyotes

North Texas heat is hard on dogs. Heavy panting, drooling, wobbling or weakness after a walk needs a call right away. The City of Mansfield also bans leaving a pet in a car or tied outside during extreme heat or cold.

Mansfield Animal Care & Control publishes coyote tips for residents, and small dogs left in the yard at dusk are the usual targets. Any bite or puncture should be seen the same day, even if it looks small.

Fireworks and runaways

All fireworks, sparklers included, are illegal inside Mansfield city limits, but some dogs still panic at the boom of a holiday show. A dog that bolts can come home with cuts or a limp. Keep pets inside on the 4th of July and New Year's Eve.
