Pet Pharmacy & Prescriptions in Lake Buena Vista, FL, From Your Local Vet

Leave the visit with the medicine your pet needs, and clear steps for giving it.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Lake Buena Vista is a vet in Lake Buena Vista, FL, with an on-site pharmacy for the dogs and cats it treats. When the vet prescribes a medicine, many pets go home with it the same day. You skip the second stop, and the person who prescribed it can show you how to give it.

The pharmacy is for patients seen by the clinic's vets. It does not fill prescriptions from other clinics.

Why does my pet need an exam to get medicine?

A vet needs to have examined your pet recently before prescribing a medicine. It's also good medicine: the same itch can be fleas, an allergy or an infection, and each one needs a different drug.

If the clinic already knows your pet, a refill may only need a quick check-in. Ask the team what your pet's medicine needs.

What kinds of medicine can my pet go home with?

It depends on what the vet finds. Common examples:

  • antibiotics and antifungals for skin, ear and bladder infections

  • pain and anti-inflammatory medicine made for dogs or cats

  • anti-nausea medicine for an upset stomach

  • itch relief for allergy flare-ups

  • monthly heartworm, flea and tick prevention

  • calming medicine for car rides or flights, when the vet thinks it is safe

Prevention is a big share of what pet parents take home. Across Petfolk, 85% of dog parasite-prevention purchases were a single monthly chew that covers heartworm, fleas and ticks, and 88% of cat purchases were a monthly topical (Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026). Ask the team which product fits your pet.

Never give your pet human pain medicine. Some common ones can hurt a dog's stomach or a cat's liver, even in small doses.

Getting medicine on a trip

The clinic is a few minutes from Disney Springs, and many visitors stop in when a pet runs out of medicine or needs something new for the drive home.

If you're visiting, bring the bottle or a photo of the label. The vet can see the drug, the dose and who prescribed it. The team can send the visit notes to your vet at home.

How do I give my pet a pill?

  1. Hide the pill in a soft treat or a pill pocket, unless the vet says to give it on an empty stomach.

  2. Give a plain treat first, then the one with the pill, then another plain one.

  3. For cats, ask the team about a liquid, a chew or a pill gun.

  4. Finish the full course of antibiotics, even if your pet seems better.

If your pet spits it out, vomits or seems worse, call the clinic before the next dose.

Store medicine where pets and kids can't reach it, in its labeled bottle. Flavored chews taste like treats, and a dog that finds the box may eat every one. In a hotel room or rental, that means up high or in a closed bag, not on a low nightstand.

What does a prescription cost?

The price depends on the drug and the dose, so ask for it at the visit. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit. A sick exam starts at $135, and PetfolkCare membership starts at $199 a year.

Fear Free handling applies to the whole visit, including the moment your pet gets the first dose.

If a medicine seems to cause a problem

Most side effects are mild, like a soft stool. Stop and call if you see hives, a swollen face or ongoing vomiting. Go to a 24-hour emergency hospital if your pet has trouble breathing, collapses or has a seizure. The Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida runs a 24-hour hospital in Oakland.
