Pet Blood Work & Lab Testing in Lake Buena Vista, FL, From Your Local Vet

Many results come back during the visit, so the plan can start the same day.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Lake Buena Vista is a vet in Lake Buena Vista, FL, with an in-house lab for blood, urine and stool tests on dogs and cats. Many results are ready while you wait. That means the vet can explain what they found and start a plan before you head home.

Lab tests show what an exam can't: how the kidneys and liver are working, whether there is an infection, and what is in the blood, urine or stool.

Book online or call (321) 621-6905. Walk-ins are welcome.

What can blood work tell us about my pet?

The two most common blood tests are:

  • Complete blood count (CBC). Red cells for anemia, white cells for infection or inflammation, and platelets for clotting.

  • Chemistry panel. Kidney and liver values, blood sugar, protein and key salts.

Other tests the vet may suggest:

  • Urinalysis for bladder infections, crystals and early kidney changes

  • Fecal test for intestinal parasites

  • Thyroid level, mostly for older cats that lose weight

  • Heartworm and tick-borne disease test for dogs

Some tests go to an outside reference lab. The team will tell you which ones and when to expect results.

When does a vet recommend lab work?

  • Before anesthesia, so the vet knows your pet can handle a dental cleaning, spay or surgery

  • At a senior checkup, to catch kidney, liver or thyroid changes early

  • When your pet is sick, to find the cause of vomiting, weight loss, thirst or low energy

  • For long-term medicine, to check that a drug isn't straining the liver or kidneys

Older cats are a good example. Across Petfolk, cats 7 and older were about twice as likely to have blood work at a wellness visit as younger adult cats (34% vs 18%, Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026). Cats hide illness well, and a lab panel often finds a problem before you see it at home.

Through bloodwork, urine samples, vaccines, etc., they assured me my cat was getting the best care.

How should I get my pet ready for blood work?

Ask when you book. For some tests the vet wants your pet to skip breakfast. For others, food doesn't matter. Keep water available unless the team tells you otherwise.

If the vet wants a urine sample, try not to let your dog pee right before the visit. For cats, the team can collect a sample at the clinic.

What happens during the test

  1. The vet explains which tests they suggest and why.

  2. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

  3. A team member draws a small amount of blood, most often from a leg or the neck.

  4. In-house results often come back during the visit, and the vet goes over each number with you.

Fear Free handling keeps the draw calm. Treats, a quiet room and a gentle hold help most pets barely notice.

Results you can use later

Your pet's results are saved in their record, so the next test can be compared with this one. A slow change over a few years can mean more than one high number. If you are visiting from out of town, ask the team to send the results to your vet at home.

Lab test pricing

The cost depends on which tests your pet needs. A wellness exam starts at $99, and a sick or urgent exam starts at $135. Lab work is added only after you agree to the estimate. PetfolkCare membership starts at $199 a year.

Signs that can't wait for a lab visit

Some problems need a 24-hour emergency hospital, not a clinic appointment. Go right away if your pet collapses, has trouble breathing, or has pale or white gums. The Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida runs a 24-hour hospital in Oakland. For vomiting or loose stool that started today, see vomiting and diarrhea treatment in Lake Buena Vista.
