Puppy Vaccines in Kennesaw, GA, From Your Local Vet

A clear shot schedule for your new puppy, and answers to every first-time question.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Kennesaw is a vet in Kennesaw, GA, that gives puppies their full vaccine series. Most puppies start at 6 to 8 weeks old and get boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until about 16 weeks. Across Petfolk, puppies typically start their shots with us at about 11 weeks (Oct 1, 2025 to Jun 30, 2026).

A new puppy brings lots of questions. The first visit is the time to ask all of them.

When should my puppy get the first shots?

Start as soon as you bring your puppy home, ideally at 6 to 8 weeks old. If your puppy came from a breeder or shelter, bring any paperwork that shows shots already given. The vet builds the rest of the schedule from there.

What is in the puppy series?

A typical plan at Petfolk Kennesaw looks like this:

  1. First visit (6 to 8 weeks): exam, DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvo), deworming and a stool check.

  2. Second visit (9 to 12 weeks): DHPP booster. Bordetella or other lifestyle shots may start.

  3. Third visit (12 to 16 weeks): DHPP booster and rabies.

  4. Fourth visit, if needed (about 16 weeks): final DHPP booster.

Puppies need several boosters because antibodies from their mother fade at different times. The last booster after 16 weeks is what gives lasting protection. Across Petfolk, about 8 in 10 puppies who start the series with us come back for at least a second distemper-parvo booster (first dose Oct 1, 2025 to Jun 30, 2026).

When can my puppy go to the dog park?

Not until the series is done and your puppy is older. The City of Kennesaw's Frank Boone Dog Park does not allow puppies under 6 months, and every dog must be licensed and vaccinated with tags on the collar.

Until the series is finished, skip spots where lots of unknown dogs go, like pet store floors, rest stops and busy trailheads. Parvo can live in soil for months. Puppy classes that check vaccine records and clean between sessions are usually fine after the first round or two. Ask the vet.

Bring these to the first visit

  • Breeder or shelter records

  • A fresh stool sample in a sealed bag

  • The food brand and how much your puppy eats

  • A list of questions, from house training to chewing

Excellent experience for my puppy’s first time vet visit.

Fear Free handling makes the first visits fun, with treats and a slow pace. That helps your puppy grow into a dog who doesn't dread the vet.

Puppy costs and PetfolkCare

Each visit includes an exam, which starts at $99 at Petfolk Kennesaw. A PetfolkCare Plan, which starts at $199 a year, makes wellness exams free and can help spread out the cost of the first year. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

What comes after the series

Once the shots are done, the next steps are monthly heartworm, flea and tick prevention, a microchip, and a talk about spay and neuter in Kennesaw. Many families add the microchip during that surgery.

This is also the time to keep building good habits. Handle your puppy's paws, ears and mouth for a few seconds each day, with a treat after. Short, happy car rides that don't end at the vet help too. A puppy who is used to being touched has easier nail trims, ear checks and exams for the rest of their life.

Lethargy, vomiting or a swollen face

Mild sleepiness after shots is normal. If your puppy has a swollen face, hives or trouble breathing, call right away. A young puppy with vomiting and bloody diarrhea may have parvo and needs care fast. If Petfolk Kennesaw is closed, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as VEG at 1290 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta.
