Pet X-Rays in Kennesaw, GA, From Your Local Vet

Digital x-rays for limping, coughing and swallowed objects, read with you during the visit.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Kennesaw is a veterinarian in Kennesaw, GA, that takes digital x-rays of dogs and cats at the clinic. The pictures appear on a screen within moments, so the vet can often show you what they see before you leave. Walk-ins and same-day appointments are welcome when your pet is limping, coughing or has swallowed something.

Call (770) 404-8937 or walk in with your pet.

When does a pet need an x-ray?

The vet may suggest x-rays when an exam points to a problem inside the body. Common reasons are:

  • A limp that lasts more than a day, or a leg your pet won't stand on

  • A cough, fast breathing or a heart murmur

  • A dog that ate a sock, a corn cob, a toy or a bone

  • Repeated vomiting, a swollen belly or straining to pee

  • Back pain, a hunched walk or crying when picked up

  • Checking how many puppies or kittens to expect

X-rays show bones, air and dense objects clearly. Organs like the liver and kidneys show as outlines, so the vet may add ultrasound for a closer look. See pet ultrasound in Kennesaw.

Can I stay with my pet for x-rays?

Usually not in the x-ray room itself. That room is kept to the team members taking the pictures, who wear protective gear. You wait nearby, and the team brings your pet right back.

I appreciate being able to stay with my critters for tests, except X-rays.

Will my pet be sedated?

Most pets are not. They lie on a padded table while the team positions them for a few seconds per picture. A pet in pain, or one too anxious to hold still, may need light sedation for clear images. The vet explains why and asks you first. Fear Free handling means soft pads, treats and short breaks between views.

If your pet is sedated, the team watches breathing and heart rate until your pet wakes up. Expect some sleepiness for a few hours. Offer a small meal that evening, and keep stairs and jumping off the couch to a minimum until your pet is steady.

Who reads the x-rays?

The vet reviews the images with you at the visit. Across Petfolk, more than three in four x-ray studies (78%) are also sent to a specialist radiologist for a second read, and roughly one in four of those is a rush read (Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026). If yours is sent out, the team tells you when to expect the report.

Limps from the trails and the dog park

Kennesaw dogs log a lot of miles. The National Park Service reminds hikers at Kennesaw Mountain that little legs work twice as hard on the steep trails. A dog that pulls up lame after a climb, or after a rough game in the large-dog run at the Frank Boone Dog Park, may have a sprain, a torn ligament or a cracked toe. If the limp doesn't ease in a day, an x-ray helps sort out which.

Bring the wrapper or a piece of anything your pet swallowed. For a limp, a short phone video of your dog walking helps the vet pick the right views.

X-ray estimates

The cost depends on the number of views and whether sedation or a specialist read is added. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

If the x-ray shows something urgent

A blockage, a twisted stomach or a large bleed may need surgery or monitoring through the night. In that case, the vet sends the images with you to a 24-hour emergency hospital, such as VEG at 1290 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta.
