What is the puppy vaccine schedule?
Here is a common schedule. The vet may adjust it for your puppy:
6 to 8 weeks: DA2PP (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvo)
10 to 12 weeks: DA2PP booster, Bordetella if needed
14 to 16 weeks: DA2PP booster, rabies
12 to 16 months: DA2PP and rabies boosters
Leptospirosis is often added from about 12 weeks for puppies who will be around puddles or wildlife. Across Petfolk from October 2025 to June 2026, puppies typically started their vaccines with us at about 11 weeks old.
Why does my puppy need so many shots?
A young puppy has some protection from mom's milk, but it fades at a different time for each puppy. Until it does, it can block a vaccine. A shot every few weeks makes sure one lands as soon as that protection drops. That is why the last DA2PP dose at about 16 weeks matters so much. About 8 in 10 puppies who started their series at Petfolk in that window came back for at least a second booster.
When can my puppy walk in Grant Park?
Parvo lives in soil and spreads through stool, and busy parks see a lot of dogs. Until about two weeks after the last puppy shot:
Carry your puppy, or keep walks to your own yard and quiet sidewalks.
Skip the off-leash parks at South Bend and Walker Park for now.
Meet healthy, vaccinated dogs you know at home.
Puppy classes that ask for proof of shots are usually fine.
Once the series is done, your puppy can join you on the paths in Grant Park. Atlanta requires a leash in all city parks outside the dog parks, so start leash practice early.
Your puppy's first visit
The vet checks your puppy from nose to tail, looks for fleas and worms, and gives the first shots that are due. You'll talk about food, house training, chewing and when to plan a spay or neuter. Bring any shelter or breeder papers and a stool sample. See deworming in Grant Park for why that sample matters.
The team uses Fear Free handling and plenty of treats, so your puppy learns that the vet is a good place. Bring your puppy a little hungry, plus a favorite chew for the wait. Short, happy visits now make adult visits much easier later.
It also helps to practice at home. Touch your puppy's paws, ears and mouth for a few seconds each day, then reward. A puppy who is used to gentle handling is calmer on the exam table.
How much do puppy shots cost?
The exam starts at $99, and each vaccine is priced on its own. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit. A PetfolkCare membership, which starts at $199 a year, brings savings across a busy first year.
Puppy problems that can't wait
Parvo often starts with vomiting, bloody diarrhea and a puppy who won't eat or play. If your puppy has these signs, call right away. If they are weak, can't keep water down, or the clinic is closed, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as MedVet Atlanta on Century Circle NE.
