Puppy Vaccines in Fulshear, TX, From Your Local Vet

A shot plan for your new puppy, from the first visit to the last booster.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Fulshear is a vet in Fulshear, TX, that gives puppies their full vaccine series. Most puppies start at 6 to 8 weeks old and get boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until they are at least 16 weeks old.

One shot is not enough for a young puppy. Antibodies from the mother fade at different times, so the boosters make sure protection takes hold once they do.

Call (281) 214-6363, book online or walk in. Weekend visits are available.

What vaccines does my puppy need?

At Petfolk Fulshear, every puppy gets the core vaccines, and the vet adds others based on how your puppy will live. The core and common choices are:

  1. DHPP, which covers distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza. It is given as a series.

  2. Rabies, which Texas law requires by 16 weeks of age.

  3. Bordetella, for kennel cough, if your puppy will go to daycare, boarding, grooming or training classes.

  4. Leptospirosis, a bacteria spread through water and wildlife urine. Ask the team whether it fits your puppy's routine.

Across Petfolk, puppies typically get their first shots with us at about 11 weeks old, often because they came home from a breeder or rescue a little later.

How many puppy visits are there?

Most puppies at Petfolk Fulshear need three or four vaccine visits, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. A common plan looks like this:

  • 6 to 8 weeks: first DHPP, exam and a fecal test for worms.

  • 10 to 12 weeks: second DHPP, plus Bordetella if needed.

  • 14 to 16 weeks: third DHPP and the rabies vaccine.

  • About 1 year: boosters for the adult schedule.

At our Houston-area clinics, more than 4 in 10 puppies who start shots with us have three or more DHPP visits (Oct 2025 to Sep 2026). Puppies that start later may need fewer visits.

Each visit is also a chance to start heartworm prevention and talk about deworming.

Before the first trip to the dog park

Parvo spreads through infected stool and can live in soil for months. Until your puppy finishes the series, skip busy dog parks and pet store floors. Short walks on your own street and puppy play dates with healthy, vaccinated dogs are a safer start.

Fulshear has a lot for a grown-up dog to look forward to. The Canine Commons park in Cross Creek Ranch has separate areas for small and large dogs, and Jordan Ranch has a dog park planned. Wait until the vet says your puppy is fully covered.

Daycare, grooming and puppy class

Many Katy and Fulshear daycares, groomers and training classes ask for proof of DHPP, rabies and Bordetella before a puppy can join. Each place sets its own rules, so ask them what they need and when. Petfolk Fulshear can time the Bordetella dose so it is in place before the first class, and you get a printed or digital record after each visit.

Gentle shots for small pups

Fear Free handling matters most at a puppy's first vet visits, because those visits shape how your dog feels about vets for life. The team at Petfolk Fulshear uses treats, soft voices and short breaks, and gives shots while your puppy is busy with a lick mat.

Signs to watch after shots

A sleepy puppy or a sore spot for a day is normal after vaccines. Call Petfolk Fulshear if your puppy seems off for more than a day. Go to a 24-hour emergency hospital, such as VEG Katy, for face swelling, hives, trouble breathing or repeated vomiting, or for bloody diarrhea in a puppy that has not finished its shots.
