Cat Vaccines in Fulshear, TX, From Your Local Vet

Rabies, FVRCP and FeLV for cats, with a calm visit built around your cat.

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - Fulshear is a vet in Fulshear, TX, that vaccinates cats of every age. Every cat needs rabies and FVRCP, and cats who go outside or live with other cats may also need FeLV.

Indoor cats still need shots. Bats and other animals can get into homes, and cats slip out doors, so the core vaccines protect them too.

Call (281) 214-6363, book online or walk in. Weekend times are open.

Which vaccines does my cat need?

At Petfolk Fulshear, the vet starts with two core vaccines for every cat and adds FeLV based on risk.

  1. Rabies. Required by Texas law for cats as well as dogs. The booster is every one or three years, based on the vaccine label.

  2. FVRCP. Covers feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia. Adult boosters are usually every one to three years.

  3. FeLV (feline leukemia virus). Recommended for all kittens, and for adult cats who go outside or live with a cat who does.

Across our Houston-area clinics, about 4 in 10 cat vaccine visits are for kittens under a year old (Oct 2025 to Sep 2026). If your cat is older and has not had shots in a while, the vet can build a catch-up plan.

Why rabies shots matter for Texas cats

In 2025, Texas confirmed rabies in 19 cats and 5 dogs, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Cats hunt, and many Fulshear cats spend time on patios and porches where wildlife passes through at night.

Texas requires cats to be vaccinated against rabies by 16 weeks of age and kept current. Petfolk Fulshear gives you a rabies certificate after each shot. If you live in unincorporated Fort Bend County, the county asks for that certificate when you license your cat.

How do you keep my cat calm during shots?

Petfolk Fulshear uses Fear Free handling for every cat, which means the visit moves at your cat's pace. Here is what that looks like:

  • Your cat can stay in the bottom half of the carrier for the exam.

  • The team uses towels, soft voices and slow hands.

  • Treats and short breaks are part of the plan.

  • The vet gives shots quickly, often while your cat is distracted.

The service was amazing they constantly made sure my cat was comfortable and that I understood what was happening

Carrier tips that help

Leave the carrier out at home for a few days with a soft blanket and treats inside, so it stops meaning "vet." Spray the blanket with a calming pheromone spray if you have one. Cover the carrier with a towel in the car, and keep the car quiet.

A hard carrier with a top that comes off makes the exam easier, because your cat never has to be pulled out.

Cats with no records

Many cats in Fort Bend County are adopted as adults or taken in as strays, and their shot history is a mystery. That is fine. At Petfolk Fulshear, a cat with no records usually gets two FVRCP doses, 3 to 4 weeks apart, plus a rabies shot, and then moves to the adult schedule. The vet may also suggest a FeLV and FIV test before the FeLV vaccine, since an adult cat could already carry the virus.

What does a cat vaccine visit cost?

Vaccines at Petfolk Fulshear are given during a wellness exam, which starts at $99. Each vaccine is priced separately, and a PetfolkCare membership, which starts at $199 a year, includes wellness exams. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

After your cat's shots

Cats may hide, sleep more or eat a little less for a day. Call Petfolk Fulshear if that lasts longer, or if you see a lump at the shot site that is still there after a few weeks. Go to a 24-hour emergency hospital, such as VEG Katy, for face swelling, vomiting or trouble breathing after a vaccine.
