North Texas Soil Stays Infective Year-Round
Fecal exams and parasite screening in Central Frisco matter more than owners often expect. North Texas doesn't reach the temperatures that kill parasite larvae in the soil. Hookworm larvae in yards throughout Stonebriar and Starwood stay infective every month of the year. Roundworm eggs are similarly persistent. Giardia cysts survive in standing water and show up in the retention ponds and drainage areas common throughout Central Frisco's newer developments.
A negative fecal last year doesn't mean a negative fecal this year. Petfolk's Frisco care center runs PCR-based fecal testing, which detects Giardia and other protozoa that standard flotation testing misses. We recommend annual fecals for Central Frisco dogs with any outdoor access, and twice-yearly for dogs that regularly visit dog parks near Legacy Drive, run the trails near The Star, or spend time in yards with known wildlife activity.
