Wellness Exams in East Cobb, Marietta, GA, From Your Local Vet

Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - East Cobb Marietta is a vet in East Cobb that gives yearly wellness exams to dogs and cats. A healthy adult pet needs one exam a year, while puppies, kittens and older pets usually come in more often.

The best time for a checkup is when your pet seems fine. Small changes in weight, teeth or heart sounds are easier to treat when they are found early, before your pet starts to act sick.

Call (678) 539-8441, book online or walk in. The clinic is open weekends.

What happens during a wellness exam at Petfolk East Cobb?

At Petfolk East Cobb, a wellness exam is a full hands-on check followed by a plain talk about what the vet found. The vet will usually:

1. Weigh your pet and score body condition (how much fat covers the ribs).

2. Look at the eyes, ears, gums and teeth.

3. Listen to the heart and lungs.

4. Feel the belly, lymph nodes, skin and joints for anything new.

5. Watch your pet walk to spot stiffness.

6. Go over vaccines, parasite prevention, food and behavior.

If a test would help, such as blood work for an older pet, the vet tells you why before anything is done. Fear Free handling is standard at every Petfolk clinic, so nervous dogs and cats get treats, breaks and a slower pace.

Very kind employees who were gentle with our pup and thorough in explaining everything to us.

How often should my dog or cat have a checkup?

Most healthy adult dogs and cats need a checkup at Petfolk East Cobb once a year. Puppies and kittens visit every few weeks until their vaccine series is done. Many vets suggest a visit every six months once a pet is about 7, because kidney, thyroid and dental problems tend to show up in those years.

Local habits the vet will ask about

Life in Cobb County shapes what your pet needs. The clinic page lists tree and grass pollen, ticks and fleas in wooded yards, and summer heat and humidity as common problems here. So the vet may ask:

• Does your dog hike the Chattahoochee River trails, where the park asks for a leash of 6 feet or shorter?

• Does your dog visit the dog park at Sweat Mountain Park?

• Does your cat ever go outside, even onto a screened porch?

• Has your pet been itchy in spring?

Your answers decide which vaccines and which kind of prevention make sense. Georgia was among the top ten states for heartworm cases in the American Heartworm Society's 2025 incidence survey, so year-round heartworm prevention comes up at nearly every dog visit.

What to bring

Bring your pet's past vaccine dates and any lab results from another clinic. A short list of questions helps, and so does a photo or video of anything odd you saw at home, like a cough or a limp. A fresh stool sample in a sealed bag lets the team check for worms at the same visit.

How much is a wellness exam at Petfolk East Cobb?

A wellness exam at Petfolk East Cobb starts at $99. It is included with a PetfolkCare membership, which starts at $199 a year. Vaccines, lab tests and prevention are priced on their own. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit.

Petfolk does not bill pet insurance directly, but the team gives you an itemized invoice and records to send in for reimbursement.

When a checkup finds a problem

Sometimes a routine visit turns up an ear infection, a sore tooth or a new lump. The vet at Petfolk East Cobb can often start treatment that same day, with medicine from the on-site pharmacy. If your pet ever has trouble breathing, collapses or has a seizure, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital such as Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency on Powers Ferry Common SE in Marietta.
