Petfolk Veterinary & Urgent Care - East Cobb Marietta is a veterinarian in East Cobb, GA, that completes domestic health certificates for dogs and cats going to another US state. A domestic health certificate, also called a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI), is a vet's signed statement, after an exam, that your pet looked healthy and is current on required vaccines. Only some Petfolk East Cobb vets do these, on some days, so call (678) 539-8441 to check before you book.
Petfolk East Cobb Marietta completes certificates for trips to other US states only; for travel outside the US, the USDA APHIS pet travel site explains the steps.
Is a rabies certificate the same as a health certificate?
No, they are two different papers. A rabies certificate proves your pet had a rabies vaccine, a shot that protects against a virus spread by bites. A health certificate says a vet examined your pet on a specific date and found it healthy for travel. Most destinations that want a health certificate also want to see a current rabies certificate, so bring both to Petfolk East Cobb Marietta, not just the tag on the collar.
Does the federal government issue the certificate?
No. The USDA APHIS pet travel FAQ says APHIS does not endorse health certificates for moving pets across state lines. Interstate movement requirements are set by the destination state or territory, and APHIS advises contacting that state veterinarian's office. So the fact is that your vet signs the certificate, and the destination state decides whether you need one.
Is one certificate good for any trip, any time?
No. A certificate covers one trip and one exam date, and it can go stale. Many airlines ask for a certificate dated within about 10 days of the flight. That is common practice, not universal, so check your airline. If your travel dates change by a lot, call Petfolk East Cobb Marietta to ask whether a new exam is needed.
Can I get one the morning I fly?
No. Certificates are by appointment with a specific vet, and the vets who do them are in on some days only. Petfolk East Cobb Marietta needs time to examine your pet, review your records and complete the forms, so call ahead and book a few days before you leave.
Small myths that cause big delays
"My pet's tag is proof of rabies shots." The tag only shows a vaccine was given at some point. The paper certificate has the dates.
"A puppy or kitten has the same paperwork as an adult." Young pets may not yet have had every shot, so mention your pet's age on the call.
"Every state asks for the same thing." They do not. Hawaii, Alaska and the US territories have their own extra entry rules, so tell the team your destination.
"Vaccines can always be given at the visit." Often they can, but some destinations want them a set number of days before arrival.
Before you travel from Cobb County
If a pet goes missing in the days before a trip, Cobb County Animal Services runs the county shelter at 1060 Al Bishop Drive in Marietta, and its Animal Services page has the details. A microchip with up-to-date contact information helps, so bring the chip number to your certificate visit.
At the exam, the vet checks your pet nose to tail. Gentle, Fear Free handling is standard at every Petfolk clinic. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment; the final bill can differ if the plan changes. A pet that is vomiting, coughing or limping may need treatment before the vet can sign, and Petfolk East Cobb Marietta offers same-day sick visits for non-emergencies. For trouble breathing, collapse or repeated vomiting, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital.
