Which surgeries are done at Petfolk Boynton Beach?

The clinic page lists these as regular procedures:

  • Growth and lump removal. The most common reason for a non-routine surgery.

  • Wound treatment. Cleaning and closing cuts, bites and torn skin.

  • Soft tissue operations. Surgery on skin and the tissues under it.

  • Spay and neuter. Planned surgery for young pets, covered on its own page.

Leaving out spays, neuters and dental work, more than a third of dog surgeries across Petfolk (38%) are to take off a lump or mass (Oct 2025 to Sep 2026). About 7 in 10 surgery patients across Petfolk in that window were dogs.

Should a lump on my dog be removed?

Not every lump needs surgery, but every new lump deserves a look. The vet will feel the lump and may take a few cells with a small needle to see what it is under a microscope. Lumps that grow fast, change shape, bleed or bother your pet are often worth taking off, and the tissue can then be sent to a lab for a full answer.

Take a phone photo of a lump next to a coin when you first find it. If it grows between visits, that photo helps the vet decide.

Getting ready for surgery

  1. A pre-surgery exam. The vet checks your pet's heart, lungs and overall health.

  2. Blood work. This shows how the liver and kidneys will handle anesthesia, and it can often be run in the in-house lab.

  3. Fasting. The team will tell you when to take food away the night before.

  4. Drop-off. You'll review the consent form and the estimate, and you can ask any last questions.

Bring a list of every medicine and supplement your pet takes, including flea and heartworm products. Some need a pause before surgery, so ask the team.

What happens on the day of surgery?

A team member watches your pet's heart rate, breathing, oxygen and temperature for the whole procedure. Fear Free handling is standard at every Petfolk clinic, so your pet gets a calm start before anesthesia and a quiet place to wake up. The team will update you when your pet is out of surgery and tell you when to come for pick-up.

How long does recovery take?

Many skin surgeries heal in about 10 to 14 days. Your pet may need a cone or a recovery suit, pain medicine and short, calm walks. Keep the incision dry: no baths, pool swims or beach days until the vet clears it. In the South Florida heat, plan walks for the cooler early hours so your pet isn't panting hard while healing.

Check the incision once a day. A little pink at the edges is normal. Swelling, heat, a bad smell or discharge is not.

Paying for surgery

The cost depends on the procedure, your pet's size and age, and what the pre-surgery tests show. You'll get an estimate before any test or treatment. The final bill can differ if the plan changes during the visit. The clinic takes major credit cards, Apple Pay and CareCredit financing.

Signs to watch after surgery

Call Petfolk Boynton Beach if the incision opens or leaks, or if your pet won't eat or seems in pain. If your pet collapses, has pale gums or is struggling to breathe, go to a 24-hour emergency hospital, such as Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) on North Congress Avenue.
